Admissions Policies

Admissions Prerequisites

There are two prerequisites that a student must meet before enrolling at The Urban Ministry Institute of Los Angeles:

1. The student must be actively involved in a Christian church and able to secure a Pastor's recommendation for his or her involvement in the TUMI program.

2. The student must be engaged in some form of Christian ministry or in a leadership role that will allow him or her to directly apply concepts learned in the TUMI classroom.

Application Process

Complete the Student Application Form and return it to the TUMI-LA Office (Email, mailed or delivered in person).

*Have your church pastor or ministry leader fill out the Pastor Reference Form (English/Spanish). *This form should be mailed by the pastor or ministry leader directly to the TUMI-LA Office or passed along in a sealed envelope to ensure content privacy.

After your submitted Student Application and Pastor Reference forms are reviewed, you will be contacted by a TUMI-LA Staff member for an in-person Admission Interview. Following the Admission Interview, you will be notified about your eligibility to enroll (typically within 1-2 weeks).

Class Registration

Upon acceptance into TUMI-LA, you may then register for TUMI classes. The most current class schedule is always posted on the home page of our website. Registration can be done online, by phone, or in person at our TUMI-LA Office.

Please note the starting date and time of each class you have enrolled in. If enrollment in a class takes place after the posted registration deadline date, a $10 late fee will be charged.

Class Attendance

On the first day of class or thereafter, you will receive:

  • Student tuition invoice ($150 per class, not including scholarship arrangements)

  • Student workbook

  • All class textbooks

  • All tuition amounts must be paid in full by the 2nd week of class

At the conclusion of each class, you may keep all class materials (i.e., student workbook and textbooks, you may need them for other Module’s or for future use).

Dropping a Class

If a student drops a class after it has already begun, a $85 fee will be charged. If the student has already been given a student workbook and/or textbooks, he or she must return them to the TUMI-LA Office or class mentor. The books should have no markings and should be returned in excellent condition. If damage has occurred, the student may be charged the full cost to replace the damaged books (full discretion is given to the TUMI-LA staff).

Financial Assistance

Please refer to our “Scholarship Page” for more information on financial assistance and scholarship eligibility requirements and if Scholarship funds are arable.
