The Foundations for Ministry Series was designed from the courses taught at The Urban Ministry Institute's Hope School of Ministry in Wichita, KS.  The topics and materials covered in these courses and study tools are foundational to effective urban ministry, and will undoubtedly prove invaluable to anyone seeking to equip leaders in urban churches.  All Foundations for Ministry Series are specially designed to help leaders grow in their knowledge of Scripture, theology, the Christian life, and practical ministry.  Ideal for either individual or group study, including Sunday schools, Bible studies, and small groups. A Biblical Vision: Mastering the New Testament

This workshop surveys the NT history of Jesus of Nazareth, from his pre-existent glory to his ascension recorded in Acts.  Jesus is the Scripture’s theme, hermeneutical center, and overall subject matter.  We concentrate on how mastering the Gospels can enable us to communicate Christ clearly and cross-culturally in the city.  See how the mastery of Jesus’ his life and ministry can enhance every dimension of urban church life and mission!




A Biblical Vision: Mastering the Old Testament

Without argument, the person of Christ is the key to both interpreting and understanding the Scriptures.  This workshop examines the role that Jesus Christ plays in the interpretation of the Old Testament, specifically how in his person and work fulfills the Levitical ceremonial systems with its Tabernacles and festivals, along with the sacrifices, moral injunctions, and messianic prophecies.  We explore the implications of this understanding for urban discipleship and church ministry today.



A Compelling Testimony

This workshop hightlights the essential perspectives and practices necessary to maintain a disciplined walk with the Lord in the context of the Body of Christ.  The teaching and discussion focuses on the spiritual disciplines of God's servant leader, on their practical obedience and the continuous leading of the Holy Spirit, and the resulting compelling testimony that is seem in home, in the Body, as a neighbor, co-worker, and member of the society.  




An Authentic Calling

This workshop explores the ways in which to understand, recognize and acknowledge the personal call of God.  It thoroughly examines the various dynamics of that heroic call, looking specifically at the gifting, authority and opportunities God provides within it.  A must have resource for those considering the call of God in their and others’s lives!




Church Matters: Retrieving the Great Tradition

Be renewed and revived as you rediscover the power of the living biblical tradition of the Church, anchored in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Throughout its history, the Church has proven that God's unique plan can unfold even in the face of schism and persecution. Such wisdom is critical to renew and revive the urban church today. Strengthen your faith by learning afresh the lessons of spiritual, worship, and mission from a study of the history of the Church! 




Marking Time: Forming Spirituality through the Christian Year

In this workshop, we explore the origins and meaning of the Christian year, how it represents the profound yet simple remembrance and re-enactment of the life of Christ in real time during the calendar year.  Beginning with an overview of the Bible's teaching in connection to time and history, the workshop explores the dominant view of the atonement, Christus Victor, which reigned in the ancient Church for a 1,000 years, and how this dynamic vision of Jesus' victory over sin and death was captured in the worship of the Church in the Church Year. 



Master the Bible System Workshop

This course highlights TUMI’s Master the Bible Program, a four-series Scripture memorization regimen which includes both audio and video resources.  Based on selected texts from the English Standard Version (ESV), the program titles include: New Beginnings In Christ: Foundations of the Faith; From Before to Beyond Time: Understanding the Story of God; Living the Christ Life: Participating in Jesus’ Story, and Growing to Maturity: The Measure of Christ’s Fullness.  

This workshop concentrates on all the essential skills needed to memorize and retain a thorough knowledge of Scripture through disciplined, programmed memorization of biblical verses according to themes and topics.  We also include issues of translation, hermeneutics, Bible history, and the story of God culminating in Christ.  This thorough program will enable each student to know and meditate on the foundational truths of the Faith, the Bible’s fundamental content and theology in Christ, providing a simple, effective method to gain mastery of the Bible’s contents in outline format, section-by-section, and book-by-book.


Vision for Mission: Nurturing an Apostolic Heart

This course identifies and explores the various dimensions of the apostles’s vision that enabled them to risk all for the sake of Christ.  It course examines what specific biblical insights, commitments, and values that energized them to "turn the world upside down," and challenges us to do the same!






Winning the World: Facilitating Urban Church Planting Movements

Learn how a new understanding of church plant movements worldwide may help us trigger the greatest harvest of souls among the world’s urban poor!  A comprehensive summary of the key elements of church planting movements across the globe, this study highlights how to learn from such movements in order to ignite such explosive, dynamic, and reproducing movements in the American inner city.
