The schedule for Module 5: Bible Interpretation, has been changed to a 6-week format. The new class schedule dates are: July 11, 18, 25; August 1, 8, 15.
As of July 1, 2016, the maximum scholarship amount awarded to an approved, first-time applicant will be a half-scholarship. If after the first year of enrollment at TUMI, further financial assistance is needed, the student applicant is invited to reapply for additional funds as they become available. Under special circumstances, exceptions may be granted as determined by TUMI-LA staff members.
Don earned his living as a plumber and carpenter. He and his wife Cynthia began accompanying their church family on short term missions and soon fell in love with the people of Mexico. Now, after supervising many teams in the construction of houses and churches in and around Tijuana, Don is becoming ministry-equipped through TUMI.
His goal is no longer just to build buildings but to plant churches! When asked, “Why TUMI?” Don shares that “What TUMI does is provide an organized program that teaches theology in an organized fashion, the goal being not just to acquire knowledge and the ability to converse or debate about biblical subjects but to have a changed heart.” Don wants to see TUMI classes expand in Mexico. “The need is great,” he says, “and we don't have the time or resources to send everyone to six years of college to pastor a church. We can take people who have a heart for ministry and give them the basic tools of ministry and provide a foundation for further learning in a very short time for a very low cost. TUMI classes are preparing me for whatever aspect of church planting in Mexico the Lord has planned for me.”
During this year's TUMI-LA commencement ceremony, T'Essa shared how TUMI has equipped and empowered her for ministry:
“TUMI classes have helped train me, because that’s what God does with us, He trains us. He is training me to fight for justice and righteousness. He’s training me to be a soldier, to work for Him as a soldier in the army of the Lord. TUMI is part of that training - equipping me, preparing me, and helping me to be more effective when I go out and witness to others. It has helped me to know how to walk alongside others who become disciples, to help others seek God, to plant churches…whatever needs to be done, He’s equipped me to do that task through TUMI. I really appreciate this Institute because I’ve learned so much more than I ever thought possible. I had a hunger in my spirit for knowing more about God and knowing more about His Word, and TUMI has helped me accomplish that goal. I want to give back and help others so that they too can be faithful witnesses for Christ here in the city.”
What Students are Saying about TUMI...
"My eyes have been opened through what I've learned, now I feel that no one will be able to divert me from God's truth."
"Our instructor taught us how to live the Christian life as well as how to teach."
“TUMI has allowed me to digest and present Scripture in a more understanding and meaningful way. I’ve learned many things while studying with TUMI, but more importantly, I’ve learned to share what I know with others in a clear and precise way. Concepts presented in the curriculum have caused me to put deep thought and careful consideration to understanding the fullness of who God is. TUMI classes and the dedication of our mentors have been a great aid in my walk with God and in my ministry. I appreciate all the effort that has gone forth to make this great resource available to me.”
"TUMI has taught me how to properly defend the truth of the Bible."
"I've never felt comfortable talking to people about God because my knowledge of Scripture was limited to the basics. But after taking my first TUMI class, I already feel more confident about my faith and have shared what I am learning with my friends and co-workers. This is very exciting to me! I would love to be able to minister to people the way you guys have ministered to me through this class."
Capstone Module 2: The Kingdom of God
"The gospel of the kingdom is not just the gospel of my personal salvation, but my being enlisted into God's realm and eternal purposes."
"Now I have a better understanding of the Kingdom of God and how it pertains to my personal life and ministry."
Capstone Module 5: Bible Interpretation
"The Bible Interpretation class has shown me how to better investigate the Bible and interpret God's word."
"This class was Biblically informative and I liked learning from the wisdom of my fellow classmates."
Capstone Module 10: God the Son
"In our study of the humanity and divinity in the person of Jesus, the Second member of the Trinity has become more intimate to me."
"I know more about who Jesus is and the importance of the Nicene Creed for Christology.
