I work on a radio station for my church called, Revive LA. The show airs to a local audience, but it's also broadcast worldwide through the internet. I'm so grateful that the Lord has given me this opportunity to reach people from all walks of life (Southern California is a melting pot of every race, creed, and nationality). My studies at TUMI have prepared me to be confident every time I go on the air waves. Working in media adds a higher degree of pressure to my work because listeners of our radio show pay close attention to what I say. TUMI gives me the confidence to know that my facts and the information I'm sharing is biblically correct. The knowledge and insight I've learned from TUMI has been extremely valuable, I can literally trace the steps back to my studies, textbooks, and lectures. The learning that comes from other students in the classroom setting is irreplaceable; their shared experiences and insights sharpen and challenge me to live out, with greater depth, what the Bible teaches. ~ Emiliano
Nourishing Souls With Food
(Jennifer, pictured right, talking with Skid Row residents)
I was raised in a foster home in Taiwan by Buddhists; but as a child, I attended a church near my home and remembered loving hearing stories about Jesus. When I was older, I moved to the United States but tough circumstances followed me and I ended up being incarcerated in an LA County Jail. I see this as a blessing now because God removed me from my crazy life and set me in a quiet place - jail - to humble and equip me. At first I rejected God's Word (which a chaplain often shared with me); yet, once I began reading the Bible for myself, I couldn't put it down. I was thirsty for knowledge of the Word and wanted to learn how to be an effective witness of God's grace. I was determined to attend The Urban Ministry Institute once I was released from jail. Within the first month after I got out, I attended my first TUMI class! TUMI's teaching has helped me discover my gifts and stirred within me a passion to help others. I've been called to serve and be a witness of God's grace to the poor, and I'm currently involved with a ministry that serves food on downtown's Skid Row. I naturally share all I know about Jesus with the men and women standing in line waiting to be fed, but I'm eager to learn and share more! I truly believe that I've benefited dramatically from TUMI's training and teaching. ~ Jennifer
God's Calendar Appointment
(Consuelo, pictured right, with her husband Gustavo, a TUMI-LA instructor)
Consuelo is from Jalisco, Mexico. She never had the opportunity to go to school because she started working at the age of 10 in order to help her parents survive financially. Growing up without an academic education was difficult, but she managed to learn basic literacy skills (such as reading and writing) on her own. God put it on her heart to enroll in TUMI. The obstacles seemed insurmountable and there were many times when she almost quit. Feeling overwhelmed and frustrated, she would often pray for God's help. At her graduation, she shared, "This isn't something that I ever imagined I would finish...to see myself in a gown like this. And I know this one thing - God had this moment appointed in His calendar and it's because of Him that I stand before you today." Not only did Consuelo graduate from TUMI-LA, she did so with high honors. She was this year's recipient of the Distinguished Scholar Award, given in recognition of both academic excellent and ministry involvement. She graduated at the top of her class with a near perfect GPA of 3.98! Along with her husband, Gustavo, and four other TUMI students, Consuelo is helping start a new church in the South Los Angeles area called Ministerio Cristiano La Viña del Señor.
TUMI helps its students - especially me! I've grown so much since enrolling in TUMI. With every course I take, I understand more clearly the true meaning of what we read in the Bible. My eyes have been opened! ~ Evelyn

My eyes have been opened through what I've learned, now I feel that no one will be able to divert me from God's truth! ~ James
TUMI has been very helpful in teaching me basic doctrines of the Bible. I've learned so much about God, and these classes have brought me into a closer relationship with Him. ~ Robert
TUMI is extremely helpful for students who have a desire to study the Bible. With the Holy Scriptures as the principle foundation, TUMI presents a curriculum rich in Christian doctrine; encouraging students to embrace the Great Commission. ~ Frank
